Bryan brings news of a whole new culture of corruption. What was that about “cleaning house”, Madame Speaker?

SEN. Dianne Feinstein has resigned from the Military Construction Appropriations subcommittee. As previously and extensively reviewed in these pages, Feinstein was chairperson and ranking member of MILCON for six years, during which time she had a conflict of interest due to her husband Richard C. Blum’s ownership of two major defense contractors, who were awarded billions of dollars for military construction projects approved by Feinstein.

As MILCON leader, Feinstein relished the details of military construction, even micromanaging one project at the level of its sewer design. She regularly took junkets to military bases around the world to inspect construction projects, some of which were contracted to her husband’s companies, Perini Corp. and URS Corp.

MetroActive then goes on to question her reason for resigning from MILCON:

Perhaps she resigned from MILCON because she could not take the heat generated by Metro’s expose of her ethics (which was partially funded by the Investigative Fund of the Nation Institute). Or was her work on the subcommittee finished because Blum divested ownership of his military construction and advanced weapons manufacturing firms in late 2005?

The MILCON subcommittee is not only in charge of supervising military construction, it also oversees “quality of life” issues for veterans, which includes building housing for military families and operating hospitals and clinics for wounded soldiers. Perhaps Feinstein is trying to disassociate herself from MILCON’s incredible failure to provide decent medical care for wounded soldiers.

So, exactly how much money did they pocket from this? Well….

As of December 2006, according to SEC filings and www.fedspending.org, three corporations in which Blum’s financial entities own a total of $1 billion in stock won considerable favor from the budgets of the Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs:

- Boston Scientific Corporation: $17.8 million for medical equipment and supplies; 85 percent of contracts awarded without benefit of competition.

- Kinetic Concepts Inc.: $12 million, medical equipment and supplies; 28 percent noncompetitively awarded.

- CB Richard Ellis: The Blum-controlled international real estate firm holds congressionally funded contracts to lease office space to the Department of Veterans Affairs. It also is involved in redeveloping military bases turned over to the private sector.

You would think that, considering all the money Feinstein’s family has pocketed by waging global warfare while ignoring the plight of wounded American soldiers, she would show a smidgeon of shame and resign from the entire Senate, not just a subcommittee. Conversely, you’d think she might stick around MILCON to try and fix the medical-care disaster she helped to engineer for the vets who were suckered into fighting her and Bush’s panoply of unjust wars.

And that’s just from the Veterans care part. So, yes, let’s take some more time looking into why 8 US attorneys, hired by the President, were fired by the President. But, hey, it’s a Democrat, so, move along people, nothing to see here. Dr. Rusty has further analysis.

WHERE IS THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA?

WHERE ARE THE DEMOCRATS TO CONDEMN AND ASK FOR HER RESIGNATION? WHERE IS NANCY PELOSI? WHERE IS HARRY REID? WHERE IS CHUCK SCHUMER?

More importantly, WHERE THE HELL ARE THE REPUBLICANS?

This is genuine news. Political corruption on a scale as big as Duke Cunningham, and the mainstream press is worried about 8 US attorneys losing their jobs in a completely legal hard-ball political axing-session.

The Culture of Corruption has ‘returned’ – bigger and better than ever before!

As Bryan says, it never left.

Bill to Ban Regular Light Bulbs Introduced in House

(CNSNews.com) – A Democratic lawmaker has introduced a bill that would ban the sale of traditional incandescent light bulbs – which are less energy-efficient, prompting claims that they contribute to “global warming” – one day after a colleague told a press conference that legislating a ban would be a “last choice.”

As Cybercast News Service reported last week, Rep. Don Manzullo (R-Ill.) and Sen. Mark Pryor (D-Ark.) held a news conference Wednesday calling for more efficient lighting options, and Manzullo said “the last thing we want to do is force legislation down people’s throats.”

One day later, Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.) introduced legislation that would set target dates for certain types of light bulbs to be prohibited for sale in the United States.

Harman calls the bill “an important first step toward making every household, business and public building in America more energy-efficient.”

“This legislation, while a small step, could have an enormous impact,” she said in a posting on the liberal Huffington Post blog. “And hopefully, it can help transform America into an energy-efficient and energy-independent nation.”

If this bill is ever enacted (it won’t be, unless the Dems get complete control over Congress and the White House), shortly before it takes effect I’m headed to Wal-Mart and buying thousands of the old bulbs so that I can keep using them decades into the future.

Yes, I’m going to buy these eeevvvviiilll light bulbs at the eeeevvviiillll Wal-Mart – just to really get the Left hacked off.

The following is a short excerpt from a CBS poll claiming that a majority of Americans favor socialized medicine:

Most Americans believe government can play a role in fixing the health care system. Two-thirds say the federal government should guarantee that all Americans have health insurance — and a similar number says providing health insurance for all is a more serious problem than keeping health care costs down.

I have no doubt that this poll was biased in the way it was conducted (because whenever I’ve looked into a poll conducted by the MSM it has been carefully devised to ensure a desired result. If I ever see an MSM poll that hasn’t been manipulated, I’ll reconsider my opinion on this.), however, if this poll is even close to accurate then we could all be in trouble.

It’s amazing to me that so many people have come to the conclusion that the government is the organization that will be able to run our hospitals the best. If you ask these same people about other government services (fixing potholes, the DMV, public schools, etc.), they’ll go into a tirade about how poorly those services are being handled. But somehow, a significant number of Americans think that health care will be the one thing that the government can get right. Based on the looks of Walter Reed lately, they’re confidence in the government’s ability to run a hospital is not well founded.

If, God forbid, we have the misfortune of getting stuck with a government run health care system, it will only take a few months before those who advocated it realize that it was a mistake. Unfortunately, once socialized medicine is here, we’ll never get rid of it.
