UPDATE: Cloture fails overwhelmingly.

UPDATE: The Senate is voting on cloture now.

UPDATE: Sessions points out that Reid is several minutes over allotted time. Current presiding officer, Obama, says “The Majority Leader has the floor”. Sessions brings it up again, Obama ignores it again. Reid continues to talk. Reid calls Sessions’ pointing out that he’s taken more than allotted time, “rude”. Are there any rules left in this Senate.

UPDATE: Dingy Harry is playing the violin now. He’s invoking the “story of my life”.
******
UPDATE: All of these Senators seem to think that our current laws “can’t just be enforced”. How do they know? It hasn’t been tried since ‘86. All of the Senators are playing their violins. They’re trying to say that all of those phone calls, faxes and emails don’t represent the American people, but a “few naysayers”.

UPDATE: The opponents, who speak for Americans, only have 10 minutes. The proponents, speaking for lobby groups, get 40. They Club Amnesty group is up now. Durbin just called the Americans who oppose the bill “dark, and looking for exclusion”. Does he realize that 80% oppose the bill? Does he care? Kennedy brings up the whole “past immigrants” thing, completely disregarding the fact that the “past immigrants” were legal.

UPDATE: Commenter Sunny at Hot Air sums up Kyl’s argument perfectly:
Congress has been incompetent. We have passed awful laws and have not enforced them. We need to pass these laws in order to enforce those laws that we messed up before. We got it this time. No really.
******
UPDATE: Kyl admits that the laws Congress has passed before haven’t worked. He then says he can understand how people don’t trust Congress to fix this. He then says you need to trust Congress, because this one will work. They’re idiots.

UPDATE: Ensign is definatly voting NO on cloture today.

The cloture voted it scheduled for just under 2 hours from now, so 10:30 am. Michelle is updating with coverage from the MSM. She also sends some numbers along:
Christopher Bond (R-MO) (202) 224-5721
Sam Brownback (R-KS) (202) 224-6521
Richard Burr (R-NC) (202) 224-3154
Larry Craig (R-ID) (202) 224-2752
John Ensign (R-NV) (202) 224-6244
Mitch McConnell (R-KY) (202) 224-2541
Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) (202) 224-6665
On a side note, there’s been an update on Tacredo’s lettuce and fruit basket to the DHS. The DHS refused to accept the basket, citing “security concerns”. Security concerns about a fruit basket from a Congressman? Yeah, right. As Michelle points out:
This is the same DHS that allowed a man with a fake matricula card to get into its Washington headquarters.
