Cheney has Higher Approval Rating Than Congress

While Congress is enjoying approval ratings in the 20s, Vice President Dick Cheney has a 39% approval rating, according to the latest Rasmussen poll.

Fifty-eight percent (58%) of American voters have an unfavorable opinion of Vice President Dick Cheney. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 39% have a favorable opinion.

However, the latest Rasmussen poll regarding Congress’ approval rating, shows just 16% of Americans approve of the job the Democratic-led legislative body is doing.

Public opinion of Congress remains near the lowest levels every recorded. Just 16% of American voters now say that Congress is doing a Good (13%) or an Excellent (3%) job. That’s unchanged from a month ago but down from 26% at the end of May. The current ratings are just a single point above the ratings for the Republican controlled Congress heading into Election 2006.

More Americans approve of the much-taunted Vice President, than approve of the Democratic-led Congress. Strangely, even President Bush has a lower approval rating than Cheney, though his is still higher than Congress’.

Thirty-eight percent (38%) of Americans approve of the way that President Bush is performing his role as President.

When it comes to voting, only 10% more Americans would vote for Democrats, than would vote for Republicans.

If the Congressional Election were held today, 47% of American voters say they would vote for the Democrat in their district while 37% would opt for the Republican. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found 6% favoring a third-party option while 10% are not sure. That’s virtually unchanged from the 46% to 37% advantage the Democrats enjoy a month ago.

Meanwhile, 57% of Americans believe they’re better off today, than they were four years ago.

Americans are fairly upbeat about their own lives, but far more pessimistic when assessing the state of the nation. Fifty-seven percent (57%) of American adults say that they are better off now than they were four years ago. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 34% disagree and say they are not better off today.

Earlier this year, a Harris Poll found than Vice President Dick Cheney also had a higher approval rating than Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
