Jose Padilla has been found guilty on all counts, which included the following, c/o MM:

Count 1 - Conspiracy to Murder, Kidnap, and Maim Persons in a Foreign Country as part of a conspiracy to advance violent jihad
Count 2 - Conspiracy to Provide Material Support for Terrorists
Count 3 - Material Support for Terrorists
Counts 4 and 5 are against Hassoun for unlawful possession of a weapon and making a false statement
Counts 6 through 10 are against Hassoun for multiple charges of perjury
Count 11 is against Hassoun for obstruction

As Allah points out, the AP’s been able to salvage defeat from a victory:

The charges brought in civilian court in Miami, however, were a pale shadow of those initial [dirty bomb] claims in part because Padilla, 36, was interrogated about the plot when he was held as an enemy combatant for 3 1/2 years in military custody with no lawyer present and was not read his Miranda rights.

The Kos Kids are upset with the conviction of a man who provided support for al-Qaeda:

Horrible miscarriage of justice

This is terrible. Should we be surprised that this verdict came out of Miami?

Sadly, no.

And:

I admit I was hoping he would be found not guilty

But by the same token, I have no idea if he is.  I would not substitute my own level of knowledge on this case for that of the jurors.

It would have been nice if he was found not guilty, since it would have been another black mark against this criminal administration.  But then again, some of the rationalizations provided by the defense for his involvement with al Qaeda don’t exactly inspire confidence in Padilla’s good will.

All in all a very sad, sad case.

Of course it is. This wasn’t a defeat for the Bush Administration or for our national security. It was a win for both. This commenter actually admits, in this very comment, that any victory in the prosecution of terrorists, is a defeat for Democrats.
