FBI Flooded With Tips on Ferry Men

by Stephan Tawney on August 22, 2007

No thanks to Seattle P.I.:

FBI agents are working through tons of tips they received after releasing a photo of two men who they say were acting suspiciously aboard Washington state ferries.

Publicizing the photo of men who haven’t been accused of a crime was an unusual move by the FBI. Officials with the Bureau say they just want to talk to the two men.

The State Patrol says investigators started by showing the pictures to ferry workers, Then they showed them at a fire and police training exercise.

With no new leads, they decided to get all the ferry riders involved by publicizing the photos and asking, “do you know who these men are?”

Actually, the article by Seattle P.I. sounds more like a defense of their decision not to post the men’s picture. Regardless of whether or not they’ve been charged with a crime, their activity aroused suspicion. Enough suspicion that the feds are looking for information from the public.

If these two men are innocent, that’s great. However, in today’s world we can’t put political correctness above national security. Leads must be followed, suspicious activity reported. The publicizing of these photos, except by the overly-politically correct Seattle Post-Intelligencer, led to a flooding of tips from the public.
