Obama Campaign to Keep Hsu’s Donations

by Stephan Tawney on August 30, 2007

The Obama campaign now says it’ll give Hsu’s donations to charity:

We have given the $7,000 in contributions from Hsu to charity and sent a letter to the Paws to affirm that the contribution they gave were from their own funds and not those of others.

Good.

They have no problem keeping donations from an FBI-wanted fugitive, who may have violated maximum donation limits by using other people to give away money. I mean, why would they?

Hsu also made donations to the Illinois senatorial campaign of Barack Obama in 2004. Yesterday, spokesman Jen Psaki said Obama, who has criticized Clinton for taking contributions that could undermine her independence, had no plans to return Hsu’s donations.

Hsu donated over $200,000 to Democrats over the past few years, all the while being a fugitive. How much went to Obama isn’t clear.

H/t Ace.
