Norman Hsu, among the top 20 Democratic fundraisers in the country, surrendered to police today. He will face grand theft charges, with the initial warrant being issued in 1992. As we know, he has since raised very large amounts of money for Democrats, hosting fundraising parties for John Kerry, becoming a top Hillraiser, and simultaneously donating to Barack Obama.
Until the other day, the Clinton campaign defended Hsu as a loyal donor. When the fact he was a fugitive became public, the Clinton campaign donated the money it had received from Hsu. A few hours later, the Obama campaign did the same. Some reports indicate that Hsu helped raise over $1 million for Clinton’s Senatorial campaign. Hsu had donated $43,700 to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, and another $2,500 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
Reports in today’s LA Times indicate that Hsu also donated to local Democratic politicians.
