Why not just start casting our votes for the 2012 election, too. Of course, the other states don’t want to be beat out, so they’ll most likely move their primary to an earlier date. Absolutely ridiculous.
Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm has signed legislation moving her state’s 2008 presidential primary to January 15, temporarily placing it ahead of New Hampshire in the heavily front-loaded nominating calendar. The law went into effect Tuesday morning.
“While political maneuvering will no doubt continue, our move to January 15th is final,” Granholm, a Democrat, said in a statement.
Not only is it a matter of pride for other states to move up their primaries, it’s the law in New Hampshire. Their state law requires it to have the earliest primaries in the country. But wait, there’s more. Iowa currently has its primary on January 14. It’s expected to move that to an earlier date, too. Which would force New Hampshire to move up again. As Allah would say, it’s our crap politics.
