Exactly How Many Times Has Edwards Gone to Iraq?

by Stephan Tawney on September 6, 2007

Well, um, never.

Former Sen. John Edwards (D-N.C.), who has criticized the Democratic-led Congress for its funding of the Iraq war, has never been to Iraq.

And in a move that left him politically exposed, Edwards on Monday lambasted President Bush for making a surprise trip to the Middle Eastern country.

Giuliani hasn’t visited the country either. However, Giuliani also hasn’t passed judgment saying the surge has failed. He wants to hear from the commanders on the ground. Edwards? He’s already declared the war lost, the surge failed, and the entire war on terror a “bumper sticker” slogan.

The Edwards campaign responded:

An Edwards campaign official said the senator wants to make the trip to Iraq, adding it is difficult for those who aren’t members of Congress to arrange it.

Really? Michelle Malkin and Bryan Preston did it. Bill Roggio did it. Bill from INDC is there now. Eason Jordan did it. Rudy Giuliani is going by the end of the year. Apparently it’s possible, and I’m willing to bet there would be special accomodations for a Presidential candidate and former Senator.

Plain and simply, Edwards has decided we’ve lost in Iraq, yet he’s never even been there.
