If you visited the Republican website for the 1st Congressional District of Wisconsin, you may want to scan your computer. A hacker accessed the site and installed an IFRAME, which installed a Storm Trojan horse (computer virus) onto vulnerable computers.
One such site was a Republican Party Web site for the 1st Congressional District of Wisconsin. Within hours after Websense notified the site’s owners, however, it had been purged of the dangerous IFRAME code. By mid-morning Friday, it was safe to visit. Hubbard did not know how the site was compromised.
The virus allows the hacker to use compromised computers to send out spam or for use in other criminal activites. It’s a popular virus, but exactly why the GOP website in Wisconsin district was chosen, isn’t clear. The district is, in fact, represented by Representative Paul Ryan (R-WI).
