New Orleans is John Edwards’ New York

With the exception, of course, that Mayor Giuliani actually accomplished something there, while John Edwards poses with a shovel outside somebody’s home.

Edwards will be back in New Orleans “soon” according to an email sent out to supporters and forwarded to The American Pundit. He’s looking for “5 Good People” who are willing to “get their hands dirty and work hard”. He also writes:

For me, New Orleans represents the promise of America because the people of New Orleans have shown tremendous resilience, even when their government forgot them.

This campaign is about change—the kind of change that doesn’t ignore or brush away the hard-working men and women of New Orleans, but that is ready to roll up its sleeves, take responsibility, and get to work.

But to do that, I need your support. I want you to join me in sending an unmistakable message to the Washington insiders, the lobbyists and the political action committees—change, real change, is on its way.

That would be a change for Edwards, for sure. From 2003 to 2004, he received almost $10,000 just from PACs. The top industries that supported his career ambitions included law firms, investment companies, real estate, and the health industry.

As much as Edwards “cares” about New Orleans, he should be reminded of this.

Democratic presidential contender John Edwards has investing ties to subprime lenders who are foreclosing on victims of Katrina, according to a report published Friday.

The Wall Street Journal said there are 34 homes in New Orleans that face foreclosure from the subprime unit of Fortress Investment Group. Edwards has about $16 million in Fortress (Charts), a hedge fund and private equity manager, the newspaper said.

So, actually, he cares as long as it doesn’t cost him money.
