What makes this even more disturbing and idiotic, is that this fake war hero is a present-day Senator. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) decided to smear Rush Limbaugh on the Senate floor for condemning people who have pretended to be war heroes but were faking their credentials. Democrats introduced a resolution condemning Rush for making the comments in an attempt to get back for the condemnation of MoveOn for slandering a respected four-star general. As pointed out before, ABC News did its own special on fake soldiers 2 days before Rush made his comments, but there’s been no condemnation of ABC.
Anyway, on to Harkin. He made this statement on the Senate floor:
Well, I don’t know. Maybe he was just high on his drugs again. I don’t know whether he was or not. If so, he ought to let us know. But that shouldn’t be an excuse.
I’m sure he scored some excellent political points with his buds at MoveOn for that. But Glenn Reynold reminds us of Harkin’s own past:

So he claimed to be a Vietnam pilot vet, then said he actually flew over Cuba, then admitted that he actually worked as a ferry pilot - not a fighter pilot -, then admitted he never actually saw combat, then claimed he only served for a year, his record showed he never served in Vietnam, and he finally admitted he didn’t serve in Vietnam. So actually, he’s a fake war hero condemning a talk show host for condemning fake war heroes.
