Bryan has an excellent post regarding the whole circus this morning. He wants to know who we’re going to condemn next.
While we’re at it, let’s pass a resolution condeming Italy for the Roman sacking of Jerusalem in 70 AD. I’m sure there are dozens of other historic crimes that the Democrats can busy themselves with while today’s actual crimes and threats go uncondemned.
Speaking of Democrats, Turkey is pissed this morning. Now, usually that wouldn’t bother me, but Turkey is a key U.S. ally, through which a chunk of supplies (70%) used in our war in Iraq travels. Pissing them off is counter-productive to the war on terror, but then maybe that’s Congress’ point. A nation we desperately need to assist us in our WOT, is getting ready to cut ties because Dems feel the need to condemn Turkey for the Armenian genocide. Folks, while the event was horrific, it happened 90 years ago, when Turkey wasn’t even Turkey – it was part of the Ottoman Empire. We’re willing to cut ties with an important ally for that? Apparently Democrats are.
Analysts say Turkey could be less restrained about defying the United States because of a congressional committee’s approval of a resolution labeling the mass killings of Armenians around the time of World War I as genocide.
“Democrats are harming the future of the United States and are encouraging anti-American sentiments,” Erdogan said. Democratic leaders in the House of Representatives support the resolution.
Erdogan said Turkey was ready to sacrifice good ties with Washington if necessary.
“Let it snap from wherever it gets thin,” Erdogan said, using a Turkish expression that means breaking ties with someone or something.
Yes, Dems are already doing wonders to improve our image and ties around the world. So much so, in fact, that Turkey has recalled its ambassador to the U.S.. And the idiocy of Democrats might not only harm our relations: it may hinder our troops ability to fight.
Turkish authorities have refused to comment on whether Turkey might shut down Incirlik air base in southern Turkey, a major cargo hub for U.S. and allied military forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. Turkey’s Mediterranean port of Iskenderun is also used to ferry goods to American troops.
Turkey’s also threatened to “review” $15 billion worth of contracts with us, and it may keep the U.S. out of further contracts. And just to top this all off, those in Turkey favoring a move of its military into Kurdistan, have been given more reason to do so.
Why? Because Democrats need to condemn a country for something that happened 9o years ago, when it wasn’t even a country.
