New Gallup Poll on S-CHIP

So Gallup releases a new poll today on S-CHIP. Besides the importance of the polling numbers, they show something else: When asked in generalities about who they trust more, more Americans trust Congress. But when the poll gets into particulars, including the actual numbers and cost, they side with Bush. So mention Bush and they supported the other side, mention the actual side he takes, and they sided with him.

Anyway, here are the numbers. When asked in detail (mentioning the numbers involved) whose side they supported, 52% supported the President, with 40% supporting Congress.

When asked if they were concerned that the expansion proposed by Democrats would encourage middle-class Americans to drop their private insurance, leading to what “some consider a step towards socialized medicine”, 55% said they were very or at least somewhat concerned. 42% said they weren’t concerned or weren’t very concerned.

But here’s my favorite part: The partisan make-up. When asked whose plan they support more, 90% of Republicans, 59% of Independents, and 25% of Democrats say they have greater confidence in the President’s.

H/t Hot Air.
