Absolutely insane. You may remember this British “journalist” who called Iraqi translators helping Coalition forces “traitors”. He said they should be slaughtered by the “true heroes” of Iraq, meaning the terrorists. Well, he’s on another trip to help the enemy.
Today’s developments are all very welcome. But more is still needed to deter an illegal U.S. attack on Iran. The formation of a mutual defence pact between Russia, Iran, Syria, Venuezuela and any other countries threatened by neocon aggression is urgently required.
The pact would stipulate that an attack on any of the states would be considered an attack on them all: and would be met with immediate military retalitation, as well as economic measures, such as the disruption of oil supplies.
There’s little doubt that had Britain, France, the Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia signed such a mutual defence pact in the 1930s, Hitler’s military aggression would have been halted. And during the Cold War, the self-defence alliances of NATO and the Warsaw Pact prevented war between the US and the Soviet Union.
The lessons of history are clear: to deter aggression, countries with a common foe need to stick together and guarantee to come to each other’s defence if attacked.
A US attack on Iran would be a catastrophe. To avoid it, we need more than just words from President Putin, but action to form a new defensive military alliance, to deter the neocon bully boys from dragging us into yet another war.
Good idea! Let’s encourage a state that has stated it wishes to wipe a nation off the face of the earth to team up with other powers. Because what could be a better alliance than 2 nations looking to wipe Israel off the map, a country currently under a “president” turning it back into a police state, and a country that cracks down on dissent and encourages communism?
The man doesn’t live in reality. His own blog states:
I am strongly opposed to the neo-conservative war agenda – and believe in the urgent necessity of a left-right anti-war coalition. The choice facing us is stark: More Shock and Awe- against Syria, Iran or Belarus, or any other country which refuses to pay Danegeld to The Empire-or lasting peace and security- based on respect for the sovereignty of nations.
Yes, because we all know that America is the great evil and if it simply laid down its arms, the world would all live in peace. It must be nice to live in Neil Clark’s world. If this is the case, I’d ask Neil Clark to explain wars such as the First Gulf War. Saddam Hussein invaded his sovereign neighbor. Was that a result of the U.S.’ apparently disrespect for sovereign nations?
Anyway, the pact he suggests, would still lead them to lose. NATO members have a mutual defense agreement. That was made evident after 9/11 when American allies said the attack on America was an attack on all due to the agreement.
America’s allies have invoked the mutual defense principle of the North Atlantic Treaty for the first time, declaring that the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington were attacks on them all, and the European Union vowed to help identify and “punish” those behind the atrocities.
The support of the 19-country alliance Wednesday was an important boost to Washington’s declared intent of building a broad coalition against terrorism.
EU foreign ministers said their governments would “spare no effort to help identify, bring to justice and punish those responsible.”
“There will be no safe haven for terrorists and their sponsors,” they added.
The clause “an attack on one is an attack on all” is enacted once the nation attacked identifies the source and decides how to respond.
Oh, and by the way, if my knowledge of history hasn’t failed me:
There’s little doubt that had Britain, France, the Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia signed such a mutual defence pact in the 1930s, Hitler’s military aggression would have been halted.
Didn’t the Soviet Union sign an mda with Hitler’s Germany? And didn’t Britain and France have an mda, which originally brought Britain into the war when France was invaded? Yeah…
