321,000. That’s the number of Americans who have been evacuated from their homes in order to stay safe from the blazing California fires. Now there’s word from CNN that there are at least 16 fires, threatening over 72,000, having already burned 1,300 residences, with the possibility of more than 500,000 people evacuated soon.
The U.S. Navy has ordered sailors out of their barracks and onto ships in order to make room for evacuees. California National Guardsmen have been ordered by Governor Schwarzenegger to assist firefighters on the front lines, as well as tend to evacuees at the Qualcomm Stadium, which has become a refuge for at least 10,000 evacuees. President Bush has issued an emergency declaration for 7 California counties, following a state of emergency declaration by Schwarzenegger.
Only key personnel were to report to U.S. Marine Base Camp Pendleton, today, but that too may be evacuated soon.
Again, our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in the line of these fires. More soon…
