NY Times: News from Iraq Keeps Getting Worse; Reality: No It’s Not

by Stephan Tawney on October 23, 2007

H/t JammieWearingFool. You’d think newspapers could pay more attention to, ya know, the news. Apparently not.

The news out of Iraq just keeps getting worse. Now Turkey is threatening to send troops across the border to wipe out Kurdish rebel bases, after guerrillas killed at least a dozen Turkish soldiers. This latest crisis should have come as no surprise. But it is one more widely predicted problem the Bush administration failed to plan for before its misguided invasion — and one more problem it urgently needs to deal with as part of a swift and orderly exit from Iraq.

Huh. News just keeps getting worse, right? Like that 70% drop in violence since the surge began? As for Turkey, I’d remind the NYT that Democrats wanted to anger the country even more by passing its Armenian resolution. And, by the NYT’s own admission later in the article, Condoleeza Rice has appealed to Turkey, and the nation has agreed to hold off any incursion, allowing all diplomatic options to be tried first.
