Congress to Override Bush’s Veto on Pork Bill

Oink! Oink! One thing Congress always seems to agree upon: It loves pork. Defense funding and border enforcement? No way, Jose. Nearly $10 billion in taxpayer-funded pork? They’re there!

If the motion passes by a two-thirds margin, which seems almost inevitable, the water projects bill will become law, marking the first override of a veto by Mr. Bush.

The House voted 361-54 Tuesday to override the veto, well above the two-thirds majority needed.

The Senate passed the bill in September by a vote of 81-12, drawing just the fifth veto of the Bush presidency.

Fiscal conservatism? Congressional Republicans don’t know the meaning of the phrase…
