One thing that’s always been preposterous through the immigration debate, is the blatant double-standard on immigration law. Mexico has extremely tough laws, with multiple years in their rat @ss slum prisons for being in their nation illegally. Yet, we’re expected to keep our borders open.

So, as there’s a debate going on here as to whether illegal aliens should be issued driver’s licenses, Mexico has a law that gives licenses only to legal citizens.

That’s right, boys and girls. The very “rights” that Eliot Spitzer and Hillary Clinton wanted to bestow upon illegal aliens — the one that Homeland Security Bureaucrat Michael Chertoff shrugged his shoulders on — is illegal in Mexico, the source of probably most illegal aliens in this country.

Chris Hawley of the Arizona Republic’s Mexico City Bureau did some digging. He found that a foreigner must present a valid visa in order to get a driver’s license in any of Mexico’s 31 states.

“When it comes to foreigners, we’re a little more strict here,” said Alejandro Ruíz, director of education at the Mexican Automobile Association.

So, here’s a fact you may not know. Despite the dropping of the plan in New York, many U.S. states are currently giving licenses to illegals. According to the National Immigration Law Center, illegal aliens can acquire licenses in Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah and Washington. Most other states do, however, require proof of residence.

The irony here is too much. If we enacted the same immigration laws Mexico has, we’d be called racist xenophobes. Mexico has the same laws against fellow Hispanics? That’s acceptable.
