Nevada goes to Mitt; Plus: South Carolina and Democrats

by Stephan Tawney on January 19, 2008

According to CNN’s entrance poll, 25% of the Republican primary voters were Mormon, with about 94% casting votes for Mitt. Fox News has now called the state for the former Governor. Democratic primary results are due around 5pm this evening.

As for South Carolina, this could be (and I stress could be) Fred’s last stand. Allah points to a new ARG poll showing Fred jumping 8 points in recent days. That’s the good news for you Fredheads. The bad news? That still puts him in third place, behind Huckabee and McCain.

The big A also updates with a link to Geraghty. According to very early exit polls, McCain and Huckabee are essentially tied for first, going neck-and-neck. Fred and Mitt are apparently a ways back.

More updates in a bit.

Update: I should’ve linked to the Nevada Democratic Party’s website. It updates every 80 seconds with the latest reported results. As with Republican results, the numbers change very quickly, so don’t place money on what the website is currently showing. One moment it was over 60% for Obama and about 30% for Clinton, and a moment later they were within 4% of each other.

Update: It’s 4:07pm EST. Team Romney is predicting a win for McCain in South Carolina.

We look forward to Governor Romney having a good showing in South Carolina. We still have an active ground operation and our volunteers are working hard to turn out our supporters. This is a state where John McCain has 100% voter identification so he should be able to win the primary.

The latest exit polls show McCain and Huckabee still close, but McCain inching ahead. Mitt and Fred are still back quite a bit.
