Tom Maguire links to this piece from The New York Times, claiming:

Mr. Kennedy had been seriously considering an endorsement for weeks — a break with his traditional practice of staying clear of primaries.

And when they say “his traditional practice” they apparently mean since, ya know, the last presidential election.
