Clinton Hints at A Clinton/Obama Ticket

March 5th, 2008

Or Obama/Clinton. As DrewM. says, “either way it’s Liberal and Liberaler”. At first this looks like a brilliant idea, which would be a sure path to the White House. But on further review, more has to be taken into account than simply adding the sums of their support.

First of all, the two will spend the next 7+ weeks doing everything possible to destroy each other. We all know Clinton is well-prepared to play dirty and go negative, and now word comes we could be seeing the same from Team Obama. They won’t simply be going after each other on not being far enough Left on issues, which they could easily repair when facing the Republican alternative. No, they’re going after each other on ethics and scandals, which are problems that can linger on.

Second of all, Clinton on any ticket is potentially devastating for her ally. You honestly think that Clinton being VP, as opposed to the head honcho, would stop the GOP from bringing up her less-than-ethical record?

Then there’s this from Allahpundit:

Are you kidding? Hillary doesn’t want to be outshone by a vice president with ten times the appeal she has, who’ll be expected to have a major role given all the media attention lavished on him. Likewise, Obama doesn’t want to languish for eight years in a do-nothing job Hillary will only use to try to isolate him. He doesn’t need to be VP to become the presumptive nominee next time, either; he’s better off building a record in the Senate and taking the edge off that inexperience rap. As for her being his veep, would you want the Clintons as your number two, triangulating and backbiting the hell out of you at every turn?

Besides, as Allah notes, Obama isn’t exactly ecstatic about the idea.
