Obama to Jewish Leaders: I Privately Expressed Concern to Wright

by Stephan Tawney on April 16, 2008

Yet apparently that “concern” didn’t “concern” him enough to leave the church or stop going to the good Reverend’s sermons.

“You make a decision about how are you going to handle it. Do you publicly denounce his comments? Do you privately express concern but recognize you are still part of a broader church community that is going to be transitioning? I chose the latter.”

Which is a smart move, really. Why would you want to publicly condemn the remarks of your 20-year-long pastor when you can have people assume you were fine with them? Oh, wait…

Obama told the group that he had not been aware of Wright’s more incendiary speeches before launching his presidential campaign last year, even though he had been a member of Wright’s congregation nearly 20 years.

That’s quite interesting. Immediately following September 11th Wright said we deserved what we got. We know he’s been making “incendiary” statements for 7 years now, yet Obama never happened to be present during a single one of Wright’s controversial speeches. Amazing.

Obama has been the subject of persistent Internet rumors suggesting he is a Muslim who was educated at a Madrassah in Indonesia and took the oath of office with his hand on a Quran. Obama did spend part of his childhood in Indonesia but attended Catholic and public schools there.

Let’s be clear on something, however. It’s true that Obama didn’t attend a Madrassah, however when most think of “public schools”, they think like the ones we have here. By Obama’s own admission, he spent at least 2 years in Muslim schools. Just thought I’d make sure that was clear.
Exit question: Did Obama happen to “express concern” over Wright’s “God Damn America” speech, his claims that America created AIDS to inflict on black people,
