If the left wants to play “Hunt the Lobbyist”, the least they can do is make sure a top member of their ranks didn’t represent a man who tried to kill a US president.

Greg Craig, a top foreign policy adviser for Barack Obama, is a parter at major D.C. law firm Williams & Connolly. In that role, Craig represents Pedro Miguel González. Pedro who?

González is president of the Panamanian Legislature and is also under indictment in the U.S. for murdering U.S. Army Sgt. Zak Hernández in 1992.

Craig also represented John Hinckley, who shot and nearly killed President Reagan in March 1981. And, as Ed points out, Hinckley isn’t the only controversial figure Obama’s top aide has represented:

He also had Kofi Annan as a client to defend him in the Oil-for-Food scandal investigation run by Paul Volcker. Craig represented Ted Kennedy when called as a witness to the rape trial of his nephew, William Kennedy Smith. And in a supreme irony, Craig represented one of the FBI agents accused of illegal surveillance in the Weather Underground cases — the same illegal surveillance that allowed an Obama backer named William Ayers to avoid prosecution.

Obama would launch his political career from the living room of William Ayers, who remains unrepentant for his bombings of U.S. government buildings.
