Google Rejects Lieberman, Claims It Stands Up for “Free Speech”
by Stephan Tawney
In response to Senator Lieberman’s request that Google-owned YouTube removes terrorist propaganda, Google has rejected his view of their policies.
Internet giant Google rebuffed Sen. Joe Lieberman’s (I-Conn.) request Tuesday to remove internet video content produced by terrorist organizations, claiming the action would stifle the “free speech” the Google-owned site YouTube encourages.
On its blog, the company said that while it “respects his views” it disagrees with Lieberman “about the details of our policies.”
“YouTube encourages free speech and defends everyone’s right to express unpopular points of view. We believe that YouTube is a richer and more relevant platform for users precisely because it hosts a diverse range of views, and rather than stifle debate we allow our users to view all acceptable content and make up their own minds,” the company replied.
Really? Is that why YouTube pulled anti-jihad videos by Michelle Malkin? Because it stands up for free speech? Is that why Michelle had to team up with the EFF to get a video critical of rapper Akon back up? Is that why YouTube has pulled anti-Gore videos from its site? Is that why an atheist critical of religion had his account deleted? Is that why at least one other user had his/her account deleted for videos critical of Islam?
Google’s YouTube is fine standing up for “free speech” when it’s jihadists posting enemy propaganda, but it has no problem deleting videos by Americans expressing their free speech.
