According to this article by the International Herald Tribune, the sister paper of the New York Times, there are a few unfair misconceptions about Obama that need to be cleared up.
Obama is Arab, Jack Stern’s friends told him in Aventura. (He’s not.)
He is a part of Chicago’s large Palestinian community, suspects Mindy Chotiner of Delray. (Wrong again.)
Obama was born in Hawaii to a white mother and African Muslim father. While Islamic tradition states that Obama was born Muslim because his father was, there’s little indication that Obama ever accepted it as his religion (with an exception here or there, like his recollection of getting in trouble during Koranic studies and his listing as a Muslim at a school in Indonesia). Palestinians may be phone banking for him in Gaza, but Obama’s not part of the Palestinian community.
Wright is the godfather of Obama’s children, asserted Violet Darling in Boca Raton. (No, he’s not.)
Wright is not the godfather of Obama’s children. The anti-American pastor who says we deserved 9/11 baptized Obama’s children, married Obama and Michelle, was the source of the title of Audacity of Hope, and was Obama’s moral guidance counselor for 20 years. However, the man who believes America created AIDS is not the godfather of Obama’s children.
Al Qaeda is backing him, said Helena Lefkowicz of Fort Lauderdale (Incorrect.)
That’s an absolutely false assertion. Islamic terrorist group Hamas is pulling for him according to a group official, and David Axelrod said he was flattered by the group’s comparison of Obama to JFK. However, there’s no indication of Al Qaeda backing Mr. Obama.
He might fill his administration with followers of Louis Farrakhan, worried Sherry Ziegler. (Extremely unlikely, given his denunciation of Farrakhan.)
Obama marched with Farrakhan in 1995 and Wright has honored the anti-semite, but there’s no indication an Obama Administration will include followers of the Nation of Islam leader.
Just thought we needed to clear a few things up there. While we should go after him on his policies of unconditional negotiations with state sponsors of terror, we should not resort to unfair, unfounded accusations.
A Note: Before I get barraged by emails attacking me for saying Hamas is pulling for Obama, the group’s top political adviser had this to say:
“We don’t mind–actually we like Mr. Obama. We hope he will (win) the election and I do believe he is like John Kennedy, great man with great principle, and he has a vision to change America to make it in a position to lead the world community but not with domination and arrogance,” Yousef said in response to a question about the group’s willingness to meet with either of the Democratic presidential candidates.
A top Hamas official saying the group is hoping for Obama to win, could possibly indicate the group is hoping Obama wins.
