The newest ad from Vets for Freedom features Sgt. Garrett Anderson, an Illinois National Guardsman wounded in Iraq. In April 2008, Sgt. Anderson and 12 other combat veterans traveled to meet with their Senator, Barack Obama.
While Sen. Obama is willing to meet unconditionally with the likes of Hugo Chavez, Raul Castro, and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, he was unable to make time to meet with these 13 veterans.
But wait, it gets better. Senator Obama has never met one-on-one with the commander of forces in Iraq, General David Petraeus. His last visit to the country was in January 2006, when he spent less than two days in the pre-surge nation. According to the group’s press release:
On April 8, when two-dozen Illinois veterans went to his office for a meeting, Senator Obama was unwilling to meet with them. He was in the office, just wouldn’t come out. Sergeant Anderson was a member of that group.
While Senator Obama talks about meeting unconditionally with America’s enemies, he seems unable to extend the same courtesy to America’s heroes.
