In defending his opting-out of the public financing system, Barack Obama said the system is broken and he feels he’s developed his own system that frees his campaign of special interest control. Excuse me, but the same system was “broken” when he promised to enter into it just last year, no? What, is was fine then but suddenly “broke” when he began raising large sums of money?

But he didn’t stop there. He went after McCain, saying the Republican nominee is taking in “huge” amounts of special interest money.

“My commitment to fixing the system remains, but in this campaign, it’s my belief that what we’ve built is something that frees ourselves from special interests and allows us to run an effective campaign as well.”

Says his decision “stands in contrast to Senator McCain’s operations right now where he says he’s in the system and yet a huge proportion of his money is raised from special interests, from lobbyists.”

I’m sorry, “huge”? Can somebody ask the good Senator from Illinois to define the word “huge” for us? As FactCheck.org pointed out, a whopping total of 1.7% of McCain’s total donations came from special interests. 98.3% came from individuals.
