The United States Supreme Court, in a 5-4 ruling, ruled that the Second Amendment applies to the individual right to bear arms. The DC Gun ban, in effect for decades without positive results, is unconstitutional.
SCOTUS Blog quotes the syllabus:
The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditional lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home.
Update: Scalia, who wrote the majority opinion, cited Eugene Volokh no fewer than 3 times.
