So says Drudge. The tape is apparently from an open mic and the comments were made by Jesse Jackson. Whatever’s on the tape, it can’t be nice. Jackson has apologized to Obama for the “crude and hurtful comments”, and CNN describes the words as “ugly”.
Fox News is in possession of the tape and it will air in its entirety during this evening’s episodes of O’Reilly and Hannity & Colmes.
Team Obama gave no comment.
Update: A bit more info from the AP:
Jackson told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he doesn’t remember his exact words. He was being interviewed about health care by a Fox News reporter on Sunday when he was asked his opinion about Obama speaking in black churches.
Jackson said the comments were, in his words, “a side light in a broader conversation about urban disparities.” Jackson was not aware that his microphone was still on.
He apologized Wednesday “for any harm or hurt that this hot mic private conversation may have caused” and said his support for Obama is “wide, deep and unequivocal.”
Update: Ah, some more info from Drudge. Quite a charming man this Reverand is.
