Time: The $500 Million Man
by Stephan Tawney
Time has a column regarding Obama’s fundraising successes, again pointing to Democratic hopes that the Illinois senator can raise a half-billion for the party. Included in that staggering total is over $300 million for Obama’s campaign and the remainder for the party itself.
The article’s great until we get to this part:
Obama’s fund-raising peaked in February, when he took in a record $55 million for the month. Since then his numbers have been in steady decline: $41 million in March, $31 million in April, $22 million in May. That said, $22 million in any other cycle would be record-breaking.
I must be misunderstanding what Time is saying, because otherwise that assertion would be entirely false. During the same period in 2004, John Kerry managed to raise $26 million — $6 million more than Barack Obama.
