The Iraqi election — not our own, as Ben Smith would learn after about 77 comments on his piece going after McCain.

“Al Qaeda is on their heels they are not defeated,” he told auto workers in Warren, Mich., speaking of Iraq. “I also predict that they will make an attempt as we get into the election season to make more of these spectacular kinds of attacks which they’re still capable of doing. The suicide bombers, et cetera. Would not surprise me and we’ve already found out that they’re going to try and step up their attacks and try and do things in a more spectacular fashion so that they can erode the support of the Maliki government.”

As usual, the Politico commenters responded with reasonable analysis of the remarks:

President-elect barack Obama in 08.
Hang it up, McCain-rape comedian.

I wouldn’t put it past the GOP to give the nutjobs a target and the ammunition for an attack, while making sure a FOX reporter is in the area.

Do you notice how McCain always qualifies terrorist attacks with the word “spectacular”? I think this is part of the GOP strategy of subliminally conveying how much fun war can be. Or maybe he just isn’t good with adjectives.

The last one apparently doesn’t possess a dictionary, because “spectacular” can be defined as “of, relating to, or being an object of curiosity or contempt”.
