As Taegan Goddard noted when he wrote this post waiting for the results of a WSJ/NBC poll (though conspicuously not when he found out the results):
At this point in the presidential campaign, it’s hard to put much weight in the various national polls that come out every week. However, I think it will be very interesting to see if Sen. Barack Obama’s trip to the Middle East gives him a bump. Conventional wisdom suggests the trip has been a roaring success so far.
The first national survey to come out since Obama left on his international tour will be released tonight at 6:30 by NBC News and the Wall Street Journal.
How much has Obama’s trip around the world, surrounded by a media eating up his every word, helped him in the polls? According to the WSJ/NBC poll, he remains at the same place he was back in June:
Sen. Barack Obama remains ahead of rival Sen. John McCain in the latest Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll with a six-point advantage, 47% to 41%.
Obama’s lead is exactly the same as it was a month ago in the June poll.
And how has the trip helped Obama’s credibility on international issues? According to a new poll from Rasmussen Reports, 63% say the trip doesn’t make Obama any more fit to be president. Apparently Obambi World Tour ’08 isn’t having the intended effect.
