Workers with physical and mental disabilities will work to assemble goody bags for DNC delegates, while Goodwill will pay for the effort. Yes, seriously.

The host committee for the Democratic National Convention has arranged with Goodwill Industries of Denver to have workers with physical and mental disabilities help assemble 20,000 welcome bags for convention delegates and media representatives.

Goodwill also will deliver the bags to hotels where convention visitors will be staying during the Democrats’ Aug. 25-28 gathering in Denver, the Denver 2008 Convention Host Committee announced Tuesday.

The bags will contain more than 40 items, all donated by various host committee sponsors. Host committee volunteers will aid in the project.

Goodwill will pay for the assembly project. The budget was not disclosed.

Good Lord.
