DNC Badges Depict Upside Down Flag

by Stephan Tawney on August 19, 2008

Yes, really. Even more remarkable? The DNC refuses to acknowledge that the item with a blue field, white stars, and red and white stripes is actually an American flag.

The viewers say with the stars and blue field in the lower left corner, it looks like an upside down American flag. Published flag etiquette states the stars should always be displayed in the upper left corner. An upside down flag represents an international symbol of extreme distress.

Matt Chandler with the Obama campaign says the flag is not upside down. He says it is a stylized flag designed to blend the stars on Senator Obama’s shirt with the flag blowing in the wind.

Yes, upside down.

“The DNCC community credentials incorporate patriotic design elements. They do not depict an actual American flag. The DNCC has full and complete respect for the flag and all rules of display.”

Seriously? That’s the best excuse they can come up with? Insisting that an American flag actually isn’t an American flag? Take a look at the graphic. How many Americans look at that and say, “Oh, a patriotic design element”? Absolutely fricken stupid.

Nice going, DNC.

I haven’t seen one negative about this coming from FOX or others. Why the silence ?

Really! Does anyone really believe that Obama had a say on the ticket design? Everyone please wake up to the real issues!! Stop allowing yourself to be manipulated by these “stories” when our families need your help. Will a flag feed my family or provide health care to my family? Real issues that face our families are at stake!! Health care, education… can we focus on the issues and not how pretty someone’s eye glasses are or if a flag is on or not on a candidates plane.. the ship is sinking and people are focused on the color of the drapes and not helping to save the ship or our middle class. Please!!

The “real issues” includes looking at the character of those that you’re putting into office. Someone can promise to fix the country but that doesn’t mean I’ll put a terrorist into office to fix it (and no, that’s just an example, not saying Obama is a terrorist).

“Will a flag feed my family or provide health care to my family?”

No, but the people who are treating the flag like this are the people you’re putting in charge.

“the ship is sinking and people are focused on the color of the drapes and not helping to save the ship or our middle class.”

The treatment of a flag that millions have fought and died for is not “the color of the drapes”. Would you like to go tell a veteran whose missing legs that that flag is just “the color of the drapes”?
