The narrative’s already being set: Palin is an uncaring mother for serving while she has a kid with down syndrome and is too inexperienced to be one heartbeat away from the presidency. Let’s examine those two claims now.
First of all, what’s irresponsible about serving as VP while have a kid with a special need? A VP’s job is essentially checking the president’s pulse once a day and considering a run for president at the end of the boss’ term. Nevermind the fact that she hasn’t had a problem juggling responsibilities as the chief executive of our nation’s biggest state.
Second, what “inexperience” exactly? She was elected to city council in 1992, went on to be a mayor for four years, ran for lieutenant governor, and eventually became governor by unseating the incumbent Repubican and defeating the Democratic opponent. She has more executive experience than all of the rest of them combined and has been in elected office for 16 years. She leads a state with Russia and Canada on its borders and is the commander of Alaska’s national guard. She’s not inexperienced.
