The National Rifle Associated has launched a multi-million dollar, multi-state advertising blitz pointing out the anti-gun history of Barack Obama and running mate Joe Biden. I’ve posted the four ads below, but you can also catch video of Obama’s own remarks (including the one about Americans being bitter) here.
First up, an ad entitled, “Hunter“. The ad points to Obama’s support for additional taxes on guns and ammo, as well as his opposition to the ownership of shotguns. The spot runs 22 seconds.
Next, we have a spot entitled, “Veteran“. It features an Iraq war veteran talking about his service to the country in order to protect our way of life. Obama wants to take away our Second Amendment rights, the spot alleges. As with the first ad, this one runs 22 seconds in length.
The third spot is called “Way of Life” and is perhaps the most direct assault on Obama’s “bitter” remark. A young man talks about traditions passed down through the family and says he won’t vote for a politician who simply claims to support the Second Amendment. This one actually runs 41 seconds.
Finally, the NRA goes after Obama’s running mate Joe Biden. The spot points out Joe Biden’s anti-gun record and says that, despite Biden’s being raised in Scranton for a while, he doesn’t share small town values. This is the shortest spot, running 20 seconds. It’s entitled, “Pennsylvania Values“.
I think all of the spots are powerful and could be damaging to Obama among small town, independent voters. Despite its long history of voting blue, Pennsylvania remains a toss-up state. The NRA has only now begun its ad blitz and could end up making a difference in the election.
Update: Allah thinks “Way of Life” should get the most attention. Agreed.
