A day before Team Obama sent around a video attacking John McCain over Keating Five, an Obama rally in Ohio featured another Keating Five member: The Obama-supporting John Glenn. Glenn, who formerly represented Ohio in the Senate, introduced Bruce Springsteen at the GOTV event.

You’ll recall that McCain and Glenn were cleared of all charges by the Democratic-controlled Senate Ethics Committee. While it concluded that they had perhaps used poor judgment, neither was found to have acted improperly and there was no punishment recommended.

Despite having been cleared, McCain felt that just the appearance of acting improperly was wrong. In the years since, he has become famous for reforms such as McCain-Feingold, which overhauled the election system.
