Obama: I Thought Ayers Had Been Rehabilitated

The latest in a long line of pathetic excuses as to why Obama associated with a domestic terrorist for years. The One thought Ayers had been rehabilitated? Seriously? Ayers was bragging about his actions and saying he wasn’t sorry for them in a September 11, 2001 edition of the New York Times.

Obama “had assumed” from Bill Ayers’ stature in Chicago, he told the Philadelphia-based Michael Smerconish, that Ayers had been “rehabilitated” since his 1960s crimes.

He based his judgment of Ayers on the fact that Ayers had a high stature in Chicago? Either he’s full of crap or he doesn’t get out much. That’s like saying that you assumed somebody wasn’t greedy because they were well-known in Washington.

“The gentleman in question, Bill Ayers, is a college professor, teaches education at the University of Illinois,” he said. “That’s how i met him — working on a school reform project that was funded by an ambassador and very close friend of Ronald Reagan’s” along with “a bunch of conservative businessmen and civic leaders.”

“Ultimately, I ended up learning about the fact that he had engaged in this reprehensible act 40 years ago, but I was eight years old at the time and I assumed that he had been rehabilitated,” Obama said.

I like he how still refers to Ayers as a “gentleman” even now that he knows Ayers remains unrepentant for his actions. Ayers bombed the Pentagon and Capitol (among other targets) and isn’t sorry for it, yet remains a “gentleman” in Obama’s eyes. As for the excuse that Obama was just 8 when the attacks were carried out, that’s irrelavant. Ayers has never apologized for them and yet Obama associated with him. That’s wrong.

“This guy is not part of my inner circle, he doesn’t advise my campaign, he’s not going to advise me as president,” Obama assured listeners.

I would certainly hope not. However, that doesn’t change the fact that Obama chose to associate with Ayers as late as 2005. As National Review notes:

“He [Obama] said they have not spoken by phone or exchanged e-mail messages since Mr. Obama began serving in the United States Senate in January 2005″  (New York Times, 10/3)

Why in the world was Barack Obama still communicating on the phone or via email with Bill Ayers up until 2005 — when in 2001 Ayers gave widely publicized interviews claiming he had no regrets about the bombing, indeed regretted that he had not done enough, and did not necessarily have any remorse either about his Weathermen career?

Because I honestly don’t believe that Ayers’ past is considered a problem by Obama. The Illinois Senator still refers to the unrepentant terrorist as a “gentleman” and can’t see the big deal in having associated with him. He doesn’t see the problem here.

“Senator McCain surely doesn’t believe that I’ve endorsed any of the actions that [Ayers] has taken,” he said. “They’re trying to distract from the economy.”

Bull; It’s all part of the same issue. We’re deciding on which man we’re going to put in control of the American economy. When he couldn’t fight McCain on experience, Obama pulled out the judgment card. Now that McCain and the RNC point out that Obama’s judgment is severely lacking, Obama calls judgment a distraction.

Obama’s judgment lead him to associate with unrepentant domestic terrorists, shady (and now convicted) landlords, PLO representatives, and anti-American pastors. And now he wants us to trust him with the presidency and to fix the economy. It’s all part of the same issue.
