Did Rep. Tim Mahoney (D-FL) have a second affair, in addition to the one with Patricia Allen as reported by ABC News? According to a source for the Associated Press, the answer is yes. A person close with the campaign says that Mahoney wasn’t even loyal to his mistress.
Later that day a person close to the congressman’s re-election campaign told The Associated Press that Mahoney also had an affair with a second woman around the same time. The unnamed source said the woman in question was a high-ranking official in Martin County. While having the alleged affair, the source said Mahoney was also lobbying the Federal Emergency Management Agency for a $3.4 million reimbursement for Martin County for damage caused by hurricanes in 2004. FEMA approved the money late last year.
This actually isn’t the first time that Mahoney’s been suspected of multiple affairs. Allen herself wanted to break off the relationship because she suspected he was, er, cheating on her:
Friends of Allen told ABC News that Allen sought to break off the affair when she learned Mahoney was allegedly involved in other extra-marital relationships at the same time.
Note, the Associated Press story also says that the affairs happened simultaneously. If even his mistress was learning of another affair at the time, then I’m pretty sure that this story has some legitimacy.
Mahoney has neither confirmed nor denied his first affair, but has said:
During the news conference, Mahoney issued a statement taking “full responsibility for my actions and the pain I have caused my wife Terry and my daughter, Bailey.”
“No marriage is perfect,” Mahoney said, “but our private life is our private life.”
If he didn’t have an affair, then what pain has he caused his wife and daughter?
