But of course. What could be better for the Iranians right now than a wishy-washy president who’s willing to legitimize them and help with their propaganda efforts by showing up at their doorstep unconditionally?
“We are leaning more in favor of Barack Obama because he is more flexible and rational, even though we know American policy will not change that much,” Larijani said at a press conference during a visit to Bahrain…
Larijani, a leading figure in the conservative camp in Iran, also said the United States was too busy dealing with the global financial crisis to consider waging an attack on Iran.
“The risk was low before,” he said. “But now I am 100% certain that the United States will not unleash a war against Iran. The economic crisis has cost the United States $1.4 trillion and Washington is working to resolve its internal problems and not a war.”
This isn’t just a regular guy, either. Larijani is Iran’s former chief nuke negotiator and was a national security advisor for the supreme leader. He actually has his pulse on the Iranian government and knows who it’s pulling for.
While I think the chance for an attack on Iran is low right now, I also think that Larijani is getting a bit too comfortable. Or at least he’s trying to appear that way. National security will take priority over the cost, with few willing to stand by during a second Holocaust.
