CSM Becomes “Web-Only”

by Stephan Tawney on October 28, 2008

I can’t say I blame the Christian Science Monitor. The dead tree format seems to be dying and web-only keeps costs down. With so many people getting their news from the web nowadays, it’s really a smart move.

We recently announced, as covered in today’s paper, that in April 2009 the daily print edition of The Christian Science Monitor will shift to a 24/7 daily Web publication. This will be combined with the launch of an attractive new weekly print publication that looks behind the headlines and helps readers understand global issues. Also we will launch a new daily e-news edition, delivered by e-mail.

In related print media news, the Los Angeles Times is cutting another 75 staff positions after cutting 130 editorial spots back in July. Not surprising considering the significant drop in circulation numbers that newspapers across the nation are seeing.

I don’t think print media will ever completely die off, but it’ll be a minimal industry. Don’t be surprised to see even more major papers switching to online-only formats in the coming yeas.

Sources: Sarkozy views Obama stance on Iran as ‘utterly immature’

French President Nicolas Sarkozy is very critical of U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama’s positions on Iran, according to reports that have reached Israel’s government.

Sarkozy has made his criticisms only in closed forums in France. But according to a senior Israeli government source, the reports reaching Israel indicate that Sarkozy views the Democratic candidate’s stance on Iran as “utterly immature” and comprised of “formulations empty of all content.”
