Reid Looks to Remove Lieberman From Committee Chief Role

Not a major surprise but it’s interesting to see your predictions come to fruition. Lieberman knew what would happen when he endorsed McCain, but he wasn’t willing to abandon his convictions in order to keep political power.

WASHINGTON (AP) – Sen. Joe Lieberman’s affiliation with Democrats was in question after a meeting Thursday with Majority Leader Harry Reid, steamed over the Connecticut independent’s high-profile support of John McCain for president.

Reid, in a sternly worded statement after the 45-minute meeting, said no official decisions have been made. But an aide to the Nevada Democrat said Reid was leaning toward removing Lieberman as chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. The aide spoke on condition of anonymity because the discussions were confidential.

“While I understand that Sen. Lieberman has voted with Democrats a majority of the time, his comments and actions have raised serious concerns among many in our caucus,” Reid said.

But of course; He didn’t fall in line. Lieberman will survive as he always does. Democrats tried to knock him out of the Senate in ’06 by denying him the party’s nomination, only for him to win re-election as an Independent.

Exit question: Will Lieberman begin caucusing with the GOP? Exit answer: Only in the way he has up to this point. He wasn’t willing to abandon his convictions even when it meant endorsing the underdog, he’s not going to do so now in order to get even.
