Gingrich For Prez in 2012?

by Stephan Tawney on November 8, 2008

Look, Newt has served his party pretty well. The Contract With America helped to give Republicans 12 years of control in Congress. He was then and remains now a fine spokesman for the GOP.

But we need new blood to go up against President Obama in four years. We need a Bobby Jindal or Sarah Palin — not q Newt Gingrich. Besides his leftward turn on a few issues, he reminds people of and old era and simply has too much personal baggage.

In serious conversations among Republicans since their election debacle Tuesday, what name is mentioned most often as the Moses, or Reagan, who could lead them out of the wilderness before 40 years?

To the consternation of many Republicans, it is none other than Newt Gingrich, the former speaker of the House.

Gingrich is far from a unanimous or even a consensus choice to run for president in 2012, but there is a strong feeling in Republican ranks that he is the only leader of their party who has shown the skill and energy to attempt a comeback quickly.

Even one of his strongest supporters for president in 2012 admits it is a “very risky choice.” But Republicans are in a desperate mood after the fiasco of John McCain’s seemingly safe candidacy.

I understand the feeling of desperation, but someone needs to take a deep breath and think. Gingrich would be much better suited for a prominant role at the RNC where he could have a central role in planning the comeback.

If Palin runs for President in 2012, at least she has name recognition going for her… but that may not work in her favor

    What about Micheal Steele?

I agree we need the New blood. Newt was and still is a great help to the American people and the GOP. He does tremendous things with his American Solutions.

But I still think a Palin-Jindal ticket is what we need and will get support from across the board after the next 4 yrs and the destruction “The Messiah” is going to do.

Chris- I think Michael Steele is dynamite, and will become part of the new fresh blood the Top Conservative leaders are claiming we need. My only concern will be the Left will NOT care about the race issues and will certainly try and say the Republicans are only trying to win over the black vote. Which is so far from the truth, b/c if Michael Steele or J.C. Watts for that matter would have been running they would have beaten out Barack Hussein Obama bigtime.

    God Bless,
    Jason
