Has everyone practiced their goose-stepping?
Plans are being made to promote a national holiday for Barack Obama, who will become the nation’s 44th president when he takes the oath of office Jan. 20.
“Yes We Can” planning rallies will be at 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. every Tuesday at the downtown McDonald’s restaurant, 1100 Kansas Ave., until Jan. 13. The goals are to secure a national holiday in Obama’s honor, to organize celebrations around his inauguration and to celebrate the 200th birthday of President Abraham Lincoln, who was born on Feb. 12 1809.
At 7:30 a.m. on Inauguration Day, Obama Cake will be served at the downtown McDonald’s, and a celebration is scheduled for 8 p.m. to midnight Jan. 20 at the Ramada Hotel and Convention Center, 420 S.E. 6th.
There’s no national holiday for JFK, Reagan, or even Clinton. Yet people are pushing for a national holiday for a guy that hasn’t even taken office yet? This has gone beyond infatuation; it’s worship.
So far we have Obama pushing for a civilian security force as powerful as the military, legions of youth marching to his praises, people changing their names to reflect his, officials across the country digging up dirt on his critics, the media destroying people who question him, and supporters effectively shutting down radio stations that run ads against him. Now we have his supporters pushing for a national holiday in his honor.
Is this scaring anyone else?

First of all, not everyone who does something historic gets a national holiday. Second of all, just as presidents have to be dead in order to be on money, they shouldn’t be allowed to have national holidays while they’re still alive.

He is just a man who puts his pants on the same way everyone else does. He has not proved that he is God yet. I haven’t seen him walk on water. Lets see if he can do what he has promised and that is to turn all of the bad garbage into gold. I believe that he has a lot going against him. Before declaring a holiday lets see if he can pull this country together.

2) Why the prohibition on holidays while people are alive? Seems stupid to me. Why do we need to wait until they’re dead to honor them?

Yes this is very scary. We really don’t know everything about him. His associations are a little bit troublesome, to say the least. How about we give it some time and see how President elect Obama governs before we jump the gun so to speak. In these economic times I really don’t think another holiday is the answer.

First of all this is very scary on a biblical sense. This is worship not adoration. He is just a man that can talk smooth. It has nothing to do with his race, color or gender. All of America should be at wits end over this. In order to have a holiday or currency portraying you, you first of all have to be dead…Second you have to do something more than win a historic election. I am supposing that no one would want to do this had it been Palin who made it to office. All I know is that I have fought for this country in the field of battle and I am truly scared for this country. I only have one thing left to say…We have been given what we deserve!

If this is true and I certainly hope not!, it reeks of Hitler and the Nazi’s. To my knowledge there has been one Messiah, and he isn’t it.And I’m pretty sure Obama is not His second coming. Historical moment? Too much is being made of his color…..or a portion of it, the man is, after all half white.

Was this an election or was this was a coup d’etat with Obama, the DNC, and the leaders in Hawaii all guilty of treason against the United States, for which the penalty is… what? Anyone?

Oh boy, everyone needs to take a deep breath. Just stop for a second and realize the struggle is not among Americans concerning our president-elect, the struggle is to rebuild a broken country. As Americans we need to focus daily on how to maintain a balance between the insanity of our personal economics and the world economy. In other words – mind your own business. Give Obama a chance. Just remember, stay focused. What’s done is done. The United States is in trouble, and we now have black president. Okay…..take a breath. Let’s all pray for a better day and for history not to repeat itself in any aspect as we know it.

People better get into revelation, (last book of the Bible) ‘he will fool even the elite’ and will be ‘from the east’ and will appear upon the world scene in a dire financial economical situation and will be able to make all the world wonder after him. We better open our eyes people, and understand that the Bible is not just a storybook as so many of us want to believe. I agree with the other people who have stated that, just as a President must be dead to be on, say, a coin, he should also have to be dead to have a national holiday for him.
But look on the bright side, a lot of people seem to think that the world will end on Dem. 31st 2012. So we have four years left.
Or maybe we’ll get even luckier, and have 7 years instead of 4.

No, this is not right. Let him do the job he has been hired/elected to do and let him do it without all of this wrong sighted worship. I am proud to say I voted for him, but this is going too far, and yes it’s scaring me also. National holiday status is reserved for the living, and I pray he will be living for a very long time, well after he has completed, what I hope to be, an 8 year run. Let’s focus on everything that is ahead of the country and world, and not get caught up in the unhealthly, misguided, worship. He has expressed the peoples voices and therein lies the reason for so many to believe in Barack, mirrors what we know to be true about the direction this country has been lead being dangerous for all of us.
I don’t believe President-elect Barack Obama himself would want this to be done, not for one minute, not in the least. This is not what he would want his presidency to be about or remembered for in history. Please don’t set this type of tone for the next 4 years, too many far more important things are on the line!!!

As a democrat, I think that this idea is crazy and ridiculous. Yes, he has been elected President, but I have yet to see his governing abilities.
Yes, Obama has blown through numerous barriers but establishing a National Holiday in his honor would be like giving someone a party for getting into medical school as opposed to when they actually graduate.
