Howard Dean Won’t Seek Second Term

by Stephan Tawney on November 10, 2008

Howard Dean will not seek a second term as DNC chairman, the Associated Press reported today. Dean, who has overseen two successful elections for the Democratic Party (2006 and 2008), was elected in 2005 and vowed to only serve one term. Obama will choose Dean’s successor.

I hardly agree with the man’s politics and he turned his 2004 campaign into a running joke, but his 50-state strategy definitely paid-off for the donkeys. Or, at least, he was in the right place at the right time. His time as DNC chair saw Democrats gain control of Congress in 2006 and the White House in 2008. Whether that was a result of his actions or Bush’s unpopularity took care of it all, he’ll be remembered as a successful chair.
