Oh Well: Ted Stevens Loses Re-election

by Stephan Tawney on Tue, Nov 18, 2008

Republicans were warned not to run him in Alaska this year. They did anyway. Now the GOP suffers the consequences. I’m not happy about Democrats being a seat closer to a filibuster-proof Congress, but I’m hardly devastated that Stevens didn’t win.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens has lost his bid for a seventh term. The longest-serving Republican in the history of the Senate trailed Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich by 3,724 votes after Tuesday’s count. That’s an insurmountable lead with only about 2,500 overseas ballots left to be counted.

Michelle Malkin points out that the corruptocrat has refused to concede this evening. No surprise there. He could request a recount but would have to pay for it. I don’t see that happening. Besides, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) was preparing a resolution to expel Stevens from the Senate even if he pulled it off. He’d be out either way.

Meanwhile, Marathon Pundit says that it’s time to rename the Anchorage international airport current named, “Ted Stevens International Airport”. Agreed.

Update: For the record, I don’t mean “Oh well” as in I was hoping it would turn out differently. I mean “oh well” as in “tough crap”, like you’d get if you got in trouble for doing something you shouldn’t have done.
