Slublog apparently saw the new statement from the, er, “Office of the President-Elect” on MSNBC. Supposedly Obama is now saying his team had “no inappropriate contact” whereas he formerly said his team had “no contact”. I’ll see if I can find it.
Frankly, I don’t understand why he would lie about any of this. Obama occupied the seat until he won the presidency. Why wouldn’t the outgoing Senator discuss his replacement with the Governor?
Update: Here we go. Now it’s “no inappropriate contact” and we won’t get that disclosure until at least December 22. Why, how convenient. People’s minds will be on Christmas at that point instead of the report. Even the Associated Press takes note of that convenience:
But spokesman Dan Pfeiffer also said the office won’t release details of its review until the week of Dec. 22 at the request of prosecutors “in order not to impede their investigation of the governor.”
That’s Christmas week, when few people will be paying attention and when Obama plans to be celebrating the holiday in Hawaii.
One has to wonder if the prosecution really did ask for the time or if we’ll be getting a statement talking about yet another “misunderstanding”.
