Obama to Name Schapiro to SEC, LaHood to Transportation

by Stephan Tawney on December 17, 2008

Barack Obama will nominate Mary Schapiro as chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission, in addition to Rep. Ray LaHood (R-Ill) as Secretary of Transportation, during a 10:45 am ET press conference at the Drake Hotel in Chicago tomorrow.

Schapiro currently heads the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). LaHood, and Illinois native, declined to run for another term in 2008 and would’ve retired next January. He is perhaps best known for his presiding over the impeachment of President Bill Clinton.
