Obama: Yeah, Uh, It’s Not That Important to Find Bin Laden

by Stephan Tawney on January 14, 2009

As long as we have him “pinned down” in a cave and unable to communicate effectively. Here’s the transcript of Obama’s interview with Couric:

OBAMA: I think that we have to so weaken his infrastructure that, whether he is technically alive or not, he is so pinned down that he cannot function. My preference obviously would be to capture or kill him. But if we have so tightened the noose that he’s in a cave somewhere and can’t even communicate with his operatives then we will meet our goal of protecting America.

Uh huh. Sounds to me like someone recognizes that he might not be able to capture the terror leader the left has slammed Bush for not getting into custody. How will we know that Osama is effectively removed from Al Qaeda? Why, the Obama Administration will surely let us know. Then it can be declared that The One has reached his goal of protecting America.

Oh, wait. The CIA already says that OBL is too busy dodging missiles to operate effectively and has been “isolated from the day-to-day operations of the organization he leads”. Mission accompished?

Update: A reminder disclaimer via Allahpundit: I agree with Obama here. The problem is that Obama has vowed to “kill bin Laden” in the past and was praised for it by the left. You know, the same left that’s spent 7 years slamming Bush for not killing or capturing the guy their Messiah is suddenly okay with just isolating. The same left that will now mostly be just fine with Obama using the same plan for OBL (and other issues) that Bush was crucified for.
